The Farm Animals

In and around the farm there are many animals.

The mule

it is a crossing between a male donkey and a female horse. The crossing between a male horse and a female donkey it’s called hinny. The mules are very resistant to hard work. In the mountains they are used in order to transport the firewood from the forests along the…….. muleways!

The goats

they are real “professional climbers”.

The sheep

they are either milk sheep or mutton sheep, or both. The milk sheep produce a special kind of milk that can be transformed in cheese. The sheep is milked twice a day. The shearer of the sheep is a festivity day. Did you know that the shearers nearly do not exist anymore? The best ones are very few and they travel around the world to shear sheep: they employ less than one minute for each sheep and, above all, they do not make cuts and they shear more than 1000 sheep a day!!! Also the dogs play a very important role for the shepherds: they protect and direct the sheep.
